Face National Models and Talent
To Whom It May Concern:
I was signed with FACE Models last
spring in Chattanooga, TN.
I paid to have comp cards made. They kept half to send
out, and I kept half.
Ever since I got my comp cards, I have been sending
them to different modeling agencies. I haven't got very
many responses, but FACE hasn't contacted me at all.
It has been over a year now. Did I make the wrong
decision to sign with them?

The problem could be Chattanooga, TN. Apparently there
are not a lot of modeling jobs available there. Or anywhere
nearby.
Where did Face National Models and Talent say you were
going to get modeling work? Did they tell you how many
of their models get work?
Frank at Blackwood-Steele said: "Most agencies
are not going to be interested in (or respond to) you
unless you are in their immediate neighborhood."
It makes sense, doesn't it?
(The agencies which are in your immediate neighborhood
you should visit, not send pictures.)
Why would Face National recruit people where there is
no almost no work, and where the prospects of getting
work are extremely limited?
Is it because they make their money from photos, and
they already got paid?
In any case, contact Face, and find out how many photos
they sent. Find out to whom they sent your comp cards,
and get the names of the companies. Find out if they
were sent to clients or agencies.
Find out if they are doing their job, or took your money
and ran.
It is strange and suspicious never to hear from the "modeling
agency" which is representing you. Others have made
the same complaint.
In cases like this, before you sign up, people need
to ask who the modeling agency's clients are IN THE AREA,
and HOW MANY PEOPLE GOT WORK.
You need to find out their SUCCESS RATE, and HOW MUCH
MODELS EARNED. Otherwise you can end up not making enough
money to pay for the cost of the comp cards!
The other thing here, if you are sending out photos,
make sure you call ahead. There is no point sending them
to an agency if the agency is not looking, or not looking
for models who are not in their immediate area.
You said you are sending out your photos to modeling
agencies. Isn't Face National Models and Talent a modeling
agency? Why aren't you sending your comp cards to potential
clients who will pay you for modeling work?
Modeling agencies do not need comp cards to discover
new faces; they only need Polaroids if they know what
they are doing.
Clients need comp cards; save your comp cards
for clients. Get Polaroids for agencies.
Face Models itself even says the same thing on page
6 of their FAQ:
- Q. I missed the model search in my city.
But I still want to be a Face model. What can I do
now?
-
- A. If you did not go to your local search, but would
like to be considered for representation, we would
be interested in taking a look at some photographs
of you. You must send a headshot and a full body shot,
both in color. You must also include your measurements,
a correct phone number and address, and what roster
city you would like to be listed under. Please note:
these pictures will not be returned. The booking department
will be looking over your photographs and contact you
if they are interested in representing you.
Face calls itself an agency, and they don't need comp
cards to determine if they are interested in representing
a model. It is the same with top agencies like Next in
NY. They do NOT need comp cards to determine if they
are interested in representing you. They ask for Polaroids.
These are much cheaper than comp cards, and do not require
a professional photographer.
