Marbles Kids Management
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing about Marbles Kids Management,
based in Denver, Colorado.
I just called and spoke with Joan at Marbles Kids Management.
She stated they would be more than happy to meet with
my child, but before they could do that they would need
to register me and collect a non-refundable $85 registration
fee.
After reading numerous articles posted on your site,
I thought these were the kinds of companies to stay away
from. Yes?
M.K.
M.,
Apparently it is not illegal to charge advance registration
fees in Colorado, but it is illegal in other states.
Even in Iowa, which is not exactly a modeling capital,
the maximum registration fee is $1.
Paying a registration fee at any age is suspicious,
but even more so for children, because the opportunities
are even more limited. Is there anything else that comes
with the $85 registration fee or is that it?
You could shop around. Find out if all the child modeling
agencies in your area charge the same advance registration
fee.
Why should you have to pay anything if they have not
even seen your son? It sounds very odd.
How long does it take to register a child? How much
work is involved? Why does it cost $85? If other modeling
companies do not have advance registration fees, why
do they have them? What do they offer that is so special
they need to charge upfront fees?
Are they trying to make a profit off registration fees?
How could they not be if they are asking for $85? Agencies
should only make their income from commissions.
